Automated UI Testing on iOS and Android devices with Appium
Here at Artisan we are using Appium, an open-source tool for automated UI testing of native mobile applications. Appium offers many benefits over other automation and integration testing tools for native mobile apps: you can write your tests in any of your favorite languages and testing frameworks and use it for both iOS and Android. We will provide a quick demonstration of Appium and some tips for getting started with your own automated UI testing for native apps.
Operations tools that resolve headaches instead of causing them: configuration management with Ansible and metrics collection with OpenTSDB
A standard operations engineer’s toolkit has emerged in the past few years: Puppet or Chef for configuration management, and any of the RRDtool-based programs for metrics collection, e.g., Cacti, Ganglia, or Munin. Straying from this well-worn path can lead to significant benefits. Notably, Ansible has a much saner and simpler design without sacrificing configuration power, and OpenTSDB doesn’t lose data resolution over time. In this talk we will go over the unique advantages of these tools and share stories where these advantages have proved very useful.
