Beaux Arts Ball is an annual event sponsored by PennDesign for all students, faculty, and guests. It's a great opportunity to spend a fun evening with friends before the stress of finals kicks in. The event includes dancing, entertainment, food, and an open bar. Your PennDesign Student Council is busy planning the event to make it memorable, and we hope to see you all in your finest this April!
Our venue this year is The Woodlands, an amazing historic site in West Philadelphia. Located on the banks of the Schuylkill River, the 50+ acre site was once the estate of William Hamilton, a wealthy gentleman, landscape designer, plant collector, and botanist, whose home was the place to party in colonial-era Philadelphia. Hamilton's eighteenth century Federal mansion remains on the site and is stunning centerpiece for the historic landscape.
The site became a cemetery in 1840, and boasts an incredible collection of Victorian funerary architecture and monuments. Although The Woodlands is still an active cemetery, its privately-owned grounds are open daily from dawn to dusk for public enjoyment, and the site provides an area for community gardeners, waterfront running trails, and open green space for visitors.
This year's Beaux Arts Ball theme is (fittingly) The Philadelphia Story. Take a night off from homework and studio projects to relax and watch Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn, and James Stewart in this great film, and be inspired by Main Line fashion and Hollywood glamour of the 1940s!
(Please note that due to the nature of this event, all attendees must be over the age of 21. Government-issued, photo identification [license, copy of passport, etc.] will be required for admittance.)
