Event Description:

Elfreth’s Alley Museum presents “Making Ends Meet: 300 Years of Life on Elfreth’s Alley,” a new exhibit celebrating the American tradition of stretching a dollar and making it work!  Please join us for the opening reception on Saturday May 18 from 5pm to 7pm at 124 Elfreth’s Alley.  The evening will feature a sneak-peak of the exhibit and talks with curator Michele Schutte and archeologist Deirdre Kelleher.  Speakers will also include clothing historian Bob Skiba giving “A Brief History of Colonial Underwear” and conducting a live-model demonstration of a colonial dressing. Think you’re nickel-and-dimed?  In the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries, thousands of people made a living on Elfreth’s Alley and called it home. Starting May 18th, discover how they survived- and occasionally thrived- in a world that makes our economy look stable.  Refreshments and hors d’oeuvres will be served. Tickets are $15.  Space is limited so get your tickets today.  After the opening and through the end of the year, tours of the exhibit will be available at 12 and 3, Wednesday through Sunday.
